Best bank?
Main Post:
Are we still loving ENT? I see 3 years ago it was a popular choice. Any other votes? Chase? Wells Fargo? I need to switch from Bank of America badly because I hate them.
Top Comment: In no universe is Wells Fargo an acceptable choice. ENT is awesome. Their customer service is fantastic. I like that I can go to any credit union atm and withdrawal funds without fees. Their loan products are fair and fast to process. If you are looking for a low service online bank, then Capital One is solid.
Zions Bank Forced “Upgrade” to Gold Checking
Main Post:
Received the following in both snail & email last few days:
“Exciting News! Your Account is Upgrading to a Gold Account”
Fine print: “The Gold Account is a non-interest bearing account with a $15 monthly fee that is waived when you keep a daily account balance of $2,500 or a combined deposit balance of $25,000 during the month.12,13,15 To earn interest on your balances, you can open Savings and Money Market accounts at no monthly fee and receive a Gold Account interest rate bonus to earn higher rates.11,16”
I called in & talked to customer service a few days ago. The agent hadn’t even heard about this change. However, she did share that she received an internal email recently stating that there would be NO waivers on monthly fees in the “near future”. I don’t satisfy account balance minimums for my current checking account type (“Premium Interest Checking”), so see this as a money grab.
I’ve had this checking account over 30 years. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess loyalty means zero.
Just wondering if anyone else has been fortunate enough to receive the same e/snail mail.
Top Comment: Time to switch to a credit union. I've been with one for over forty years and never put up with any of that.
Unfair Fees and Poor Customer Service with Fidelity Credit Card (Elan Financial Services)
Main Post:
I recently had a very disappointing experience with the Fidelity Credit Card by Elan Financial Services. When I initiated a payment from my Fidelity credit card account to pay my credit card from Fidelity money market, the first attempt failed with a “debit failure” notice. I then initiated the payment again. Later, the first transaction actually went through, but the second attempt failed due to insufficient funds.
Instead of recognizing this situation, Elan retried the second payment again and charged me two separate fees ($30 and $40). This was extremely unfair, as I did not make an error—this issue happened between Fidelity and Elan.
To make matters worse, both the Fidelity money market and Fidelity credit card departments refused to take responsibility, each claiming it wasn’t their issue. When I contacted customer service, the representative was not only unhelpful but also rude and argumentative.
I’ve always trusted Fidelity, but this experience with Elan Financial Services has been very frustrating and unprofessional. Customers should not be penalized for system/payment handling errors beyond their control, and respectful customer service should be the minimum expectation.
Top Comment: I'm having trouble following what happened. You said When I initiated a payment from my Fidelity credit card account to pay my credit card from Fidelity money market, Where was the payment coming from?
I need advice. Just got approved for 3 credit cards. I can’t ruin credit this time!

So long story short . I finally am fixing my credit. I first applied for a secured open sky. I only put $100 on it . I was approved for $1000 imagine Visa. And a $300 First Access. I haven’t received the last 2 yet. I am not going to just run them up like I did when I was younger. This is my chance to build my credit. But I still am kinda of confused about how to successfully use them for them to improve your credit . So the OpenSky is showing up on credit karma. The goal is to have good enough credit where I can get a decent car loan that doesn’t have a 25% interest rate. If someone can break this down to me like I’m 10 I would appreciate so much . Thanks in advance.
Top Comment: Never heard of any of these cards which is a bit scary. There are some nasty predatory cards out there that have high fees and bad customer service making them hard to avoid fees and hard to cancel. Reputable first-time/low-rating cards that are often recommended are Capital One and Discover. Set every car to auto-pay the full balance from your checking account every month. And then never spend more than you have in your checking account so you don't ever have to touch that auto-pay. After 6-12 months apply for a no-annual-fee cashback card and cancel these secured cards. Continue to use it as a charge card -- i.e. pay it in full every month, just using it as a payment method for your checking account that comes with cashback and fraud protection.
For those that have climbed out of bad credit, what’s your story?
Main Post:
If you’ve been in the 400s and 500s, how long did it take you to climb out of those score ranges and what was your struggle? I myself am currently in the mid 500s and would like some hope. Life is kicking my butt rn and i need shreds of hope anywhere i can get it.
Top Comment: I’m 38. In my 20s and early 30s I was dumb with my money. Spending every paycheck pretty much as soon as it came in. Always told myself that as I made more money I’d get better with my spending, it was just bc I didn’t make a lot of money. Well... lifestyle creep, a relationship with a narcissist, and some pretty severe depression/anxiety, along with really bad spending habits on my part, I found myself 15k in debt, no savings, working a job that wasn’t going anywhere bc it was more like working in a frat house with buddies. My credit was in the low 500s in December 2022. I moved back to my home area after 17 years for a job. This was a massive change, had some life stuff happen so the depression was still there. I was lucky enough to have parents that welcomed me home for a life “reset”. I took them up on that in December of 2022, and I have about 2k left to pay off in the next month or so and my credit is back up to 694. I have basically been throwing everything I can at debt, counseling for the depression/anxiety. I only mention the last parts bc you mentioned life kicking your butt, just remember that you’re not alone, many many people have been in your situation and my situation. Probably not where you thought you’d be at your age right? Same here, but taking little actions can add up! I know my situation is different and not everyone has the opportunity for a reset like I did. That fact does not escape me. But I just hope you can have some encouragement to know that there are ways to dig out of the hole! Side note: living with your parents as an adult isn’t ideal at all, but I missed a ton of time with my family during my 5 year relationship with a narcissist and during some really low points in my life. So I’m trying to make up for some of that with them while I work my way towards a house.
